Attention AAOMS Members!

AAOMS Members:

Here are recommended resources from David Schwab, Ph.D. to help you grow as a leader. All are available on Amazon.

The Dental Communication Advantage: Proven Scripts and Strategies to Train Your Team and Grow Your Practice by David Schwab, Ph.D. Last year attendees at AAOMS asked me if I had written a book. I am pleased to say that the answer now is YES. Many specialists are providing copies of the book to referring dentists as holiday gifts. Better than bagels or cookies, the book is something tangible that helps your referring dentists grow their practices. For more information: www.davidschwab.com.

Goals! by Brian Tracy. When Brian Tracy interviewed me, I explained that I always give attendees many practice management tips, but often it’s just a few key points that can make a substantial difference in a practice. Brian said that it can be just one key takeaway that is a game changer—and, as usual, he is right. Brian is legend in the world of motivational speaking His book is concise and filled with practical wisdom.

The One Thing by Gary Keller. Running a practice can at times seem daunting or even overwhelming. Keller puts everything in perspective and helps business owners start with the most important tasks. This book is becoming a classic.

The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership by John Maxwell. I have been a fan and follower of John Maxwell for a long time. Recently I had the pleasure to hear him in person. His points are always clear and insightful.

The E-Myth Revisited by Michael E. Gerber. This book belongs on every entrepreneur’s bookshelf. Gerber explains that every business needs systems to stay on track and grow. I took my note-filled copy to one of his lectures and learned even more from him in person.

Start with Why by Simon Sinek. I developed this point in my lecture with a nod to the author. Leaders need to focus on “why” because this concept is essential for getting employees to buy-in to the practice’s mission and values.

It’s Okay to Be the Boss. By Bruce Tulgan. Tulgan says that one key issue in many businesses is that fear of “micromanagement” leads to “undermanagement.” People like structure, and they need to know who is in charge and what is expected of them.
